tuxlerVPN FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

How can I upgrade to the premium version?

Click the “Buy Premium” button on the buy page and you’ll be presented with available payment methods. If none work for you, contact our support for more information.

I’ve purchased a premium subscription, but didn’t get my login details.

After payment, an automated email with your username and password is sent to your email address. Please check your spam folder just in case. If you still can’t find it, contact support with the transaction ID and payment method and we’ll be happy to help.

How many devices can one premium account be used on?

One premium account allows one active tuxlerVPN session at a time — for example, the app on one computer, or the extension on one Chrome profile.

How can I reset my password?

You can change or reset your password here: password reset.

Why does my IP address or location change on its own?

IP addresses in our pool have a short lifespan. Once the IP you’re connected to goes offline, our system assigns a new one from the nearest available location. Because this is automatic, it doesn’t count against your daily location changes.

Why am I getting connected to a different country?

If there are no available IPs from the country you selected, you’ll be assigned an IP from a country that currently has availability. This automatic change doesn’t count against your daily location changes.

Why am I connected to city X when I selected city Y?

Selecting a country and city specifies your preferred location. Our server then assigns an available IP from the nearest city. Larger cities tend to have more IPs available at all times; for smaller ones, availability is spread throughout the day.

Why am I getting the “IP you are using is not residential” message?

The “residential” location option is available only if the computer running our app has a residential IP. On a VPS or RDP the residential option won’t be available. If you believe your IP is in fact residential, share it with us and we can confirm.

I have premium but still see “Daily location change limit reached.”

Premium users get 100 daily location changes (free users get 10). After reaching the daily limit, you’ll need to wait until it resets at about 6:15 pm GMT each day.

Is it possible to increase the daily location changes limit above 100?

No. The only way to get more daily location changes is to purchase additional premium accounts and alternate between them.

Can I use Tuxler on a VPS (RDP)?

Yes, but you won’t be able to select residential locations — that feature requires a residential IP rather than a data-center one, which is what a VPS provides.

Do you have a reseller program?

Yes. See the affiliate & reseller page for more information.

Which data transfer protocol does tuxlerVPN use?

At the moment tuxlerVPN uses the SOCKS5 protocol, a secure and modern packet exchange protocol.

Will other users be able to connect using my IP address?

When you use our free residential VPN, you agree to add your IP to the community pool — trading your IP for the ability to connect via other users’ IPs. You can opt out by purchasing premium; once you upgrade, your IP is removed from the community pool.

Do you support macOS / Linux / OpenVPN / Mobile?

Not at the moment. tuxlerVPN is available as a desktop app for Windows (64-bit), or as a Chrome and Firefox extension.

Do you have an API?

No. Access to our service is available via our desktop app or browser extension only.

Is there a kill switch?

Both the desktop apps and browser extensions prevent programs/browsers from reaching the internet once the connection drops. This resembles a kill switch and is turned on by default.

My DNS leaks with the desktop app even when I set my DNS to 8.8.8.8.

At the moment, the most reliable solution for DNS-over-proxy is to use the tuxlerVPN Chrome/Firefox extension instead of the desktop app.
